Book Sale Bargains.

Maker:L,Date:2017-9-17,Ver:5,Lens:Kan03,Act:Kan02,E-YI tried taking an ‘artsy’ photo, but decided to go with the Titan photobomb. He is something else. Earlier he attacked a mini propane tank sitting on the floor. I guess it was a threat.

So as you can see, I got a few books at my local library’s book sale. I have already started One Hundred Years of Solitude in audio book format, which is good, but hard to follow as some of the characters have the same name. I am excited to start reading it, but I am now in the depths of Children of Blood and Bone (which is living up to my high expectations). For Wicked, I have seen the musical at my local theater, and I was pleasantly surprised. I have never been very interested in the Wizard of Oz or any of its retellings. The Crichton book I grabbed is called Pirate Latitudes, and honestly I only grabbed it because, pirates. I love pirates. Do I totally romanticize them? Yes.

Finally got some writing done, bringing my WC to 50k. Probably won’t get to my goal of 60k by May 1st, but that is okay. I am going slow, making sure I like what is being written, and not just trying to fill the page.

Sad news today in the EDM community. Avicii passed away at the age of 28. Whatever reasons contributed to it, he was a very talented artist, and one of the few that I actually purchased their album. Spotify had a playlist ready scarily fast, but it has been nice listening to all of his music today. I forgot how many songs I loved.  I guess that is all we can do when an artist passes away. Remember why we love them, by reliving what they have produced. Whether it be music, movies, or traditional art.

Long Week is Lonnnnggg

The great thing about working overtime, is more money. The not so great thing? Less time in your week to get stuff done. Shout out to all the women and men who work multiple jobs, have kids, take care of family members, all of that. I realize I have no perspective. My busiest day involved getting my hair dyed after work. But working with the public is taxing in its own way, so I found myself asleep by nine almost every night. I did get some writing done today though, which is good. 5k words of my 20k goal for April. I also have a lengthy reading list that just keeps growing. At the recommendation from a friend I am currently reading/listening to Don Winslow’s The Force. Honestly I would have never picked that kind of book, but I needed a break from my typical sci-fi/fantasy choice. Needless to say, I am pleasantly surprised. It has been a good read so far, and it is looking like I will finish in the allotted two week loan period from my library.

My TBR pile currently includes:

Children of Blood and Bone by Toni Adeyemi
American Panda by Gloria Chao
The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan
The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin
Iron Gold by Pierce Brown

And many more. I have a nasty habit of starting books, then getting distracted by one totally not even on the list. That is the one thing I love about the library though. It forces me to read books I never would have thought of. Anyway, hopefully this week will be more productive.

Cookies!

Well I achieved my goal. 40032 words as of Friday night. So I rewarded myself with cookies. Found this really awesome recipe that makes a single batch of chocolate chip cookies (eight decent sized one). Here is the link:

I substituted the light brown sugar for dark, and I am so glad I did. It resulted in a nice chewy cookie that between by husband and I, lasted all of 10 minutes. I will definitely use this recipe again. Today is April 1st, so time for a new goal. It is a busy month. Bridal shower for one of my best friends, a Broadway show, and lots of overtime at the real job. But that wont stop me. 60k here we come. I want this manuscript ready by September. My Birthday gift to myself. Did some writing this morning, but alas, it is time to get ready for some family time. On that note, a happy Easter and Passover to those who celebrate!

It Begins…

Why did I start a blog? So I could procrastinate of course. And I would like to track my writing progress. Maybe it will make it seem more real. Maybe it will encourage me. Hopefully for the sake of my future may-be-editors, it will improve my writing. Hard to be an aspiring author when you stink and spelling, grammar, and punctuation. The story is there, the goal is set. I just need to get it on paper. Current word count: Approx 30k. Here is to hard work, hope, and as always, a little luck. I can do this.
